I have been a life long dog lover and guardian. I live in southern Minnesota with Darcy, my partner of 16 years. We have 9 dogs, including 4 Yorkies, of our own and 1 foster dog for www.anewstartonlife.com. I am an RN and Darcy is a unit attendant in an assisted living complex. All of our dogs are rescues and 6 of them came from puppymills in either Missouri or Iowa.

Isabella is my princess. She is 6 years old. She goes to work with me every day and loves to socialize with the people living in the long term care facility. She currently is being treated for kidney failure. She is seeing an acupuncture and holistic vet in Des Moines, Iowa http://www.apvet.com/index.html Dr. Van has given us hope and successful treatments when all other vets told us nothing more could be done to save her life. Daunte is our puppymillrescue poster boy. He was born in a puppymill in Missouri and suffered from patent ductus arteriosis. That is a hole in his heart. He was barely 8 weeks old when he had open heart surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Eyster performed the surgery and he has been seen on the Animal Planet. This is a birth defect that is often seen in puppymills due to poor breeding standards and malnutrition of the mother dogs. He is blind from progressive retinal atrophy. This is also a condition resulting from poor breeding and is a genetic disorder.
